Meet iSaac, RIP iAn


Due to some mysterious water damage, my beloved iPhone, iAn passed away on June 7th, 2009. In case you're one of those odd PCs, let me just tell you that once you go Mac, you never go back! (Why isn't that a t-shirt?) So, with that said it was obvious that I was going to get another iPhone. After 36 phone-less hours of torture, I ventured to the Apple store here in Allentown to receive the diagnosis. A Genius finally told me that iAn could not be revived and that I needed to buy a replacement. But he also added that Apple announced the release of the NEW iPhone on July 26th. He suggested that I get a go-phone and spend $200 on the brand new iPhone rather than $250 on a replacement iPhone without all the cool new features. Genius. <-- ha! I didn't even plan that. What a fitting name. So for 17 torturous days I was the owner of a go-phone. I can't tell you how many times I tried to touch the screen, as if a $15 (nearly indestructible, says Radio Shack man) phone would function like iAn. Not a chance. Oh and my fingers were sore from texting... I had to PUSH buttons! Absurd. The morning of July 26th could not have come slower! The Apple Store was opening at 7am, so I got some coffee and headed there at 6:30am with my reservation for a black 16GB. Of course there were about 50 people ahead of me in line, geeks. After 2 hours of listening to other's chat about which phone they were getting, the new features, and how geeky their lives were, it was my turn. I marched in towards a Genuis and he proceeded to ask "What can I do for you?" Really? What the heck do you think I'm here for at this hour?! So I said "I'd like to buy an iPhone please." Genuis - "Do you have a reservation?" Yes. "Blah, blah, what color and size? are you do for an upgrade? blah, blah, blah. I can't sell you the phone." Whaaaaat?! He then tried to explain that because I was not the principal account holder, he wouldn't take MY $200 for the phone in my hands. Uggghhhh. He directed me to the AT&T store. "They can help you." Ten minutes after entering the AT&T store, I left with my new iPhone in hand. Frustration. Dumb Genius. Haha. When I returned to the dorms, Margo was still sleeping (as most of us are at 9am). So I quietly opened the new iPhone, iSaac's box, and plugged him into my Mac, Marvin. Marvin prompted me asking "do you want to restore to the last iPhone back-up?" Yes, please! 30ish minutes later iSaac was up and running and EVERYTHING from iAn's last back-up was restored. We're talking emails, pictures, text messages, notes, alarms... amazing. RIP iAn. And the go-phone could see some time again in the future for water events. I might be a professional athlete, but I cannot afford to replace iSaac any time soon.

Oh no, a broken Iphone! I hope it either gets fixed or you'll get a new one soon.
